Authentic New York Style
Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant

It’s common knowledge that humanity has been making and consuming wine for a long time. In fact, it’s been longer than some of us think.

The earliest scientifically-assessed evidence for wine dates back almost 8,000 years! It was found in the Zagros Mountains in the country now known as Georgia, which is in the part of the world right in the intersections of Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Other evidence has been found nearby in Armenia and Iran, dating back 6,000-7,000 years.

wineCivilizations and empires such as the Phoenicians spread outward into the world, and they brought their love of wine with them. Egyptians, the Greeks, later the Romans each developed their wine cultures over the coming millennia. Nowadays different regions exist all over the world with multitudes of varieties of grape (not to mention other fruits such as cherries or ‘wines from starches such as rice and barley), and their own methods of production, leading to many different kinds of wine.

Next time, we’ll take a look at, of course, Italian wines. In the meantime, visit us at Goodfella’s and enjoy a bottle of wine from our new bar!
